IBPS Clerk

IBPS Clerk

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection conducts its exam broadly for four categories viz Common Written Examination (CWE) for Specialist Officers, CWE for Probationary Officers/Management Trainees, CWE for Clerical and CWE-Regional Rural Banks.

CWE for Clerical Cadre

A person aspiring to work in Clerical Cadre in a public sector bank is required to clear the CWE for clerical cadre conducted by IBPS once in a year. The score obtained by the candidate remains valid till the time mentioned by IBPS in the advertisement itself. This time span is usually a year. The results of the written examination are published in the form of scorecards which mention the marks of the individual in all the 5 subjects of the written examination. The 5 subjects of the written examination along with number of questions in each subject and marks for each subject are mentioned below:
Sr. No.Name of the Subjects (Objective)No. of questionsMaximum MarksTime Allotted
1Reasoning40402 hours
2English Language4040
3Numerical Ability4040
4General Awareness (Mainly Banking questions)4040
5Computer knowledge4040
The written examination is the main examination which helps IBPS in short listing candidates at a large scale. Each individual is required to qualify each and every section of the written exam individually. A candidate is considered as qualified in the written examination if he clears the sectional cutoff for each section individually. Each correct answer in the paper will fetch the candidate 1 mark whereas each negative answer will deduct 0.25 marks. If any answer is left blank, the marks of that question won’t be counted. One may find the paper easy but lengthy. IBPS wishes to check the ability of the person to respond to time critical situations by giving 200 questions to be completed in 120 minutes which makes to less than a minute to solve a particular question. One has to be careful to attempt only fixed number of questions in each section such that he/she is able to clear sectional cutoff too along with clearing the complete exam cutoff.
The final results of the written examination can be viewed on the IBPS website. The scorecard can be seen in the results section by entering the candidates roll no. on the website. Cut offs for each section for both General and Reserved categories can also be checked and accordingly the candidate can find out the areas or subjects in which he/she needs to work hard. Mere passing in individual tests is not enough to be called for an interview. The candidate needs to qualify in total in order to come in the merit list. Once the name of the candidate appears in the merit list, he/she shall be eligible to attend interviews which are conducted by the participating banks from time to time. The validity of the scores on the scorecard will be till the date mentioned by the CWE IBPS (generally 1 year) in the advertisement itself. By any chance if the candidate is not selected by any banks within the span of time, the score of the CWE Clerical becomes invalid and he/she has to appear again for the next CWE clerical exam scheduled by IBPS.
A candidate whose name successfully appears in the merit list of written examination needs to keep track of various Public Sector Banks publishing there advertisements in the newspapers and calling candidates for interviews. For each Public Sector Bank who participates in IBPS and wishes to call candidates for interview according to vacancies forClerk in its various branches in various states, it publishes an advertisement in newspapers, bank websites, and other social media and informs the successful candidates about the minimum score it wishes to accept in order to call a candidate for an interview. These minimum scores may vary from bank to bank and state to state in case of same bank. The individual bank may decide these scores and these minimum scores along with name of the states are published in the advertisements published by the bank. Accordingly, a candidate who wishes to apply with the bank he/she is interested in can attend the interviews at the locations mentioned by the bank in the advertisements.
